Updates

Well, it is official! Mommy is now 30! Everyone helped her kick off her next decade this weekend with cards, well wishes, food, and cake! Alex even serenaded her several times with his famous rendition of 'Happy Birthday.' It was enough to make a mommy cry!

We also went to the Corn Festival this weekend. It was terribly hot, but the corn tasted great as always. Alex was super excited about going and eating corn-on-the-cob and he thought it was delicious! He also got a Reggie Redbird tattoo on his arm, which he has been showing off with pride this weekend!

Julia's new trick is shaking her head 'no' all the time. We ask her silly questions and she responds with a silly shake of her head, 'no.' 'Julia, should we go to Antarctica?' 'No, says Julia.'

Oops-I forgot a picture of the watermelon!

This was taken a couple of weeks ago when the watermelons were just getting started. I need to add another, more current picture to the blog, because two watermelons are about the size of cantaloupes right now!!

Alex is loving his watermelon garden. He checks on them everyday and put his butterfly garden decoration right next to them!

New Pictures

Sitting in her new bed, looking pretty!

Alex showing off his writing and drawing skills. From left going clockwise: banana, letter A, letter A, and skunk. Center: worm.

Silly Alex and Julia

Alex had his last summer zoo class on Monday. He got to listen to one of his favorite stories...'The Mitten,' meet a mama hedgehog and her babies, and make a hedgehog craft. Silly Alex wouldn't pet the hedgehog. He said that he was afraid it might 'poke him.' He'll pet a snake, a millipede, and a million other animals, but not a hedgehog! He wouldn't even pet the babies! They were adorable.

Alexism:

(Note: Alex's potty training is going awesome!)
Alex to Mommy: I have to go pee pee! (He races off to the bathroom!)
Mommy to Alex: Do you want to stand or sit? (It often varies...go figure)
Alex to Mommy: Stand
Mommy to Alex: Your underwear left a red mark on your butt. Does it hurt?
Alex to Mommy: No Mommy, it's not an ouchie, it's just my crack!
Mommy: Dies with laughter!

Julia's new trick for the week is waving hello and good-bye! She likes it so much she does it all the time and we often swears she says 'hi' when she is waving sometimes! She is so cute!

A Fun Week

Julia finished up Alex's swim lesson this week. Julia loved the class despite the cooler temperature of the pool. Just to double check that Alex wasn't permanently scarred from swim class, we took him to the pool this afternoon and he seemed to be just fine. You wouldn't believe that it was the same child who was screaming just days earlier at swim class. He was swimming, laughing, jumping in the pool, riding on the lazy river, and going down the slides. He was even a little bummed that we had to go home.

Updates on our watermelons: We have a total of 11 watermelons growing in our garden. One looks like it will be a definite loss and 5 look like they may turn out to be substantial watermelons. We are all amazed on how quickly they have gotten so big! Literally, a week and half ago they didn't exist and now four of them are bigger than potatoes (the big ones!). Alex is so excited!

The Latest News

Alex started his swim lessons last Monday. For a kid who seems to love the water so much when we go swimming for leisure, it would be hard for you to believe it if you saw him at lessons. He screamed his head off for every lesson last week. First, his tears were because of the frigid water on Monday. On Tuesday and Wednesday, he said it was still cold despite the fact that it wasn't and he was fearful of me 'dropping him in the water.' It seems like nonsense, but maybe he sensed that I could barely touch in the 4 feet water (posted at 4 feet...I would venture to guess that it is more like 4 1/2 feet). I am not sure if this is the true issue, though. Uncle Jeffy took him to class on Thursday and Alex promised he would like it better, but Alex just screamed in Uncle Jeffy's ear the whole time. Anyways, we have decided to stop torturing him for now and will take Julia to swim lessons next week instead.

Mommy celebrated her upcoming 3oth birthday by having girl's time with Auntee's Tonya and Karen on Thursday and Friday. Daddy played Mr. Mom while Mommy hung out with her bestest friends! We had a blast, but I missed my babies. I did discover, however, that only Duke truly missed me and that Daddy can take care of the kids for a few days and remain in one piece (both the children and himself!).

Saturday Morning:
Mommy: (Pulls into driveway and sees Alex playing at Owen's) 'Alex, I'm home. Come give me a hug and a kiss.'
Alex: (Backwards glance) 'No! I'm playing with Owen!'
Mommy: 'Didn't you miss me?'
Alex: 'No, I didn't miss you at all!'

I am glad to see that I am loved and appreciated for all that I do around here!
