Signs of Nature

Alex and Julia looking at the baby bunny!

A hawk (maybe a juvenile Cooper's hawk) sitting on our neighbor's fence.

Two crazily huge, possibly from the Jurassic period, dragonflies that decided to hang out under our porch one rainy evening.

Birthday Party #1

Don't look so happy that you are turning 4!!!

Alex's birthday cakes...he told me he wanted a cake with strawberries on it (next year, when he turns 5, he wants a pie with cherries in it...so he tells me), so I made him an American Flag cake. Interestingly enough, he only wanted to eat the yellow cake with chocolate frosting that Meema made for him! I ended up giving away most of the American Flag cake, because he NEVER took one bite of it...sniff, sniff!!

Spring Yardwork and Garden Prep

Daddy and Alex getting the garden ready for planting!

More prep work!! The garden has been in for two weeks now and Alex already has sprouts of corn and carrots! We have also planted strawberries, but they came as starters, so we're hoping to have some strawberries soon!

Julia helping Mommy fill her planters with dirt! Julia helped to plant lots of flowers this Spring. Unfortunately, it looks as though we may be replanting some of them. We had some baby bunnies (pictures to come later) and they wreaked havoc on all of our newly planted flowers! Bad baby bunnies!! We'll forgive them, but only because we have started spraying Liquid Fence and it seems to be keeping them away now!

Alex's Birthday

I know you are all dieing to see pictures of Alex's birthday, but I just haven't had the time to get them uploaded yet!! I have been swamped this week while preparing for a garage sale...ahhhhh!!

Alex had a wonderful 4th birthday and enjoyed celebrating with friends and family. He had his 4 year old doctor's appointment yesterday and weighed in at 38 1/2 lbs. and is 40 1/2 inches tall. He is at the 71st percentile for weight and the 53rd percentile for height. He was quite the little man while getting two of his four kindergarten shots (we chose to do two this year and two on his fifth birthday). Alex was a bit nervous about it, but I told him to think 'happy thoughts.' When it was over, he said that "it didn't really hurt" and "I thought happy thoughts like you told me, mom." I asked him what he thought about and he said "his soccer ball, his train table, Owen's house, and Owen's toy box." Interesting, Alex, indeed!!

Our Little Dandelion Picker!!

Alexisms

Alex has desperately wanted a pinata for his birthday party. I was hesitant because I didn't want to pay for it, but he was insistent, so we decided to make one. Well, he settled on a hot air balloon...go figure, he would pick something difficult for my first try at making a pinata. As I started looking around, I realized pinatas weren't exactly as expensive as I had thought, so I tried to talk Alex into just buying one. He was completely against it until we finally ventured to Hobby Lobby this week to buy the supplies for the hot air balloon. One last attempt as we walked along the pinata aisle..."Are you sure you don't want a party hat pinata?" No!" "How about a baseball?" "NO!" We went along and looked at just about every single one and Alex continued to say no until he saw the donkey. I hadn't even pointed it out, because I certainly thought that he would never want a donkey, but that is what we headed out of the store with that day. It was pretty cheap with that 40% off coupon I had and I thought I had overcome a huge hurdle of making a homemade pinata. Well, then the story continues...today, Alex tells me that...

Alex: "I don't want to break my donkey."
Mommy: "Why?"
Alex: (As he is hugging the donkey) "Because, I love him. Is that so wrong?"

I don't know where he gets these things!! But, I am going to be real sour if I end up making that hot air balloon pinata!!

Someday, He Will Hate Me For This!!

Special thanks to WBNQ for offering up a lame, family-safe line-up just before this song started, also to Alex for being a good sport for allowing himself to be video taped dancing, and to myself for having just enough of an immature mind to find this entertaining and having the presence of mind to record it!!

A Fun Saturday

Alex and Mommy waiting for the Gamma Phi Circus to begin...It looks empty, but everyone came shortly thereafter. It was a packed house! I guess we're special, because somehow, Daddy was able to get us front row seats!!

Alex getting ready to bowl!!

Alex laying an egg...Ha Ha...Actually, he was a pretty good bowler. Bowling a 65 for your first game ain't bad...even if you use the bumpers!!
